Pregnancy & Whelping Care
At Drewsar our dams are given the best care throughout their pregnancy. High quality nutrition, vitamins, around the clock vet services (if needed), and more, our Moms are well prepared and ready to bring their puppies into the world. Around day 30 we do our pregnancy check at home to mitigate any stress on mom. We do a pre whelp X-ray to get an accurate puppy count to be as prepared as we need to be prior to arrival.
ENS & ESI Once puppies are 3 days old we begin ENS (early neurological stimulation) and ESI (early scent introduction). This is performed from day 3-16, including daily weights. ENS helps to improve: • cardiovascular performance • stronger heartbeats • stronger adrenal glands • more tolerance to stress • greater resistance to disease ESI improves nose awareness and confidence.
10 Step Handling
From Empowered Breeder program here At 3 weeks old we move into a more advanced curriculum with our puppies created by Jeanette of Empowered Breeder. We begin a “10 step puppy massage” every day and increase pressure weekly. We use this 10 step handling exercises to ensure our puppies are exposed to various types of touch, handling and sensation. This includes eyes, nose, inside mouth, around collar, tummy, down back, pull tail, tug on ears, and tapping nails. Which helps greatly with grooming and other things later in life.
Syllabus:
At 3 weeks we introduce our puppies to different sounds, sights, textures, things to climb on, run through and more. We believe in empowering our puppies giving them a voice vs enabling them. We set them up to conquer physical and mental challenges daily. By doing this we build our puppies nerve strength and confidence as well as problem solving skills. Our goal is provide our puppies with a stable and enriching environment for the first 9 weeks of their lives. We highly recommend our families get a copy of Raising The Empowered Puppy here to continue the same curriculum we have been following to ensure a smoother transition.
Matching:
At 8 weeks of age we match each puppy to their home bases on temperament and personality to ensure everyone gets the right fit. After the 6 week in person visit we send out a matching questionnaire to get a better view on each family which puppy best suites their needs.
