We are a family run hobby breeder between Milton and Guelph, Ontario. Dogs are our passion. They are our personal companions first and show/working dogs second. They sleep on our couches, beds and have taken over swimming in our pool. They are a big part of our everyday lives, and we could not imagine a day without them.
We were introduced to this wonderful breed in 2014 when we exported one of our PWDs to Sweden. Sara met several Lagotti from Gleska Kennel at a show in Norway and fell in love. We purchased our foundation girl Nesta from a wonderful breeder in Italy and began our exciting adventure with this special breed.
Nesta had our first Lagotto litter in September of 2016. There were five puppies and we kept one beautiful girl named “Brooke” who became out first home bred Canadian Champion. In her second litter we kept another beautiful daughter “Harper” our second home bred Champion. We are now into our 3rd generation of Lagotto with 10 Canadian Champions and 3 American Champions. Our dogs have won Best Puppy, Best Bred by and Winners Bitch at the Canadian Lagotto National. We have also won Reserve Winners Dog and Best Puppy at the American National. In 2016 Pixie was the #1 Lagotto Puppy in Canada.
Sara was honored to judge the Sweepstakes at the American Lagotto National in 2023.
Not only have our dogs been successful in the show ring and whelping box they have enriched countless lives as ambassadors of the breed to everyone they meet with their outstanding disposition. Plan a visit with us and see for yourself you will not want to leave.
LAGOTTO BREED INFO
The Lagotto, a water retriever breed with a distinctive curly coat, is an ancient breed originating from the marshlands of the Delta del Po in the eastern region of Romagna, Italy. Originally bred as a gun dog and water retriever, it is now commonly used for truffle hunting due to the drainage of its native wetland habitat.
The Lagotto is a small to medium-sized dog, typically not exceeding 50 cm in height at the withers. Average weight 13 – 16 kg (Male, Adult), 11 – 14 kg (Female, Adult). It has a sturdy and rustic appearance. Being a smaller breed, they may require more time and patience for housebreaking. The body is roughly square in shape, with the length being approximately equal to the height. The coat is thick, wool-like, and tightly curled into ringlets. It can be completely off-white or have orange or brown patches or roaning. Additionally, it may be solid orange or brown with or without white markings.
Lagotto dogs have a medium-length, double coat that is curly. They are considered to be low shedders, making them a good choice for individuals seeking a dog with minimal shedding. Regular grooming every few weeks is necessary to maintain their coat.
These dogs are known to be alert barkers and diggers. They are also emotionally sensitive, and not all Lagotto dogs are suitable as family companions. Careful consideration is needed when selecting a Lagotto puppy for families with small children. With sufficient exercise and socialization, they can make excellent domestic companions.
Lagotto Romagnolos are extremely affectionate and deeply devoted to their owners. Once they become familiar with someone, they are likely to greet them warmly. However, they may be wary of strangers and require some time to adjust to new individuals.
